Gratitude & Advice

I have always struggled with anxiety and depression. As I got older, they got worse and worse until they became debilitating and negatively impacted my relationships. My partner Jonxe had gone back to school for a degree in psychology and when they graduated, I realized that going back to school was something I really wanted. I realized I needed to seek treatment for my depression and anxiety in order to be able to do so. Jonxe has been supportive throughout, helping me when I'm struggling with mental health issues as well as anything school related. I'm very grateful to have someone in my life who not only understands what I'm going through, but who I can rely on when I need help.

The most important advice I would give to my younger self is that it is okay to ask for help. For so long I struggled unnecessarily and I can't help but think of the wasted years before I was put on medication. Seeking help and treatment for your mental health is no different than seeking medical help for a physical ailment. It isn't a sign of weakness and you aren't irreparably broken.

There is such a stigma about mental health struggles in our society, so I try to be very open about my experiences. I want others to know they're not alone and it's okay to ask for help.
